One of Bonnie’s biggest fears is having her daughter Destiny become a career mental patient. In this 98,000-word modern-day version of I Never Promised You a Rose Garden Destiny and her mother Bonnie, use alternating viewpoints to give us a first-person view into the taboo world of child and adolescent psychiatric residential treatment programs. Changing Destiny’s Destiny, follows 17-year-old Destiny who suffers from a rare genetic condition called Syndrome XX which stops her body from aging past age eight, and causes childhood-onset schizophrenia and total digestive tract failure. She is not expected to live past her early twenties.

Destiny knows she’s terminally ill, but when engulfed in The Bad Man’s World, she’s driven to self-destruct. After a near-lethal overdose landed her on life support for five days, her parents had no other choice but to admit her to The Jackson Center. The Jackson Center misdiagnoses her based on her old records before even meeting her. Then they create a care plan that is a set-up for her to fail. She goes spiraling further and further away into a world of intuitionalism.

Destiny’s story is my story. I too spent a year and a half being misdiagnosed at a treatment center like the Jackson Center. Their care plan almost killed me as well. Just like Destiny, I suffer from schizoaffective disorder, total digestive tract failure, a delay, and autoimmune-mediated small fiber autonomic polyneuropathy and am dependent on IV nutrition and IV hydration for survival. Right now, I am in the terminal stages of my disease. My goal is to get as much of my writing out into the world before I pass so that my writing will be my legacy.

It would thrill me if you downloaded a copy of my book at:
